WELCOME TO MAIDSTONE PUMAS AFC

Maidstone’s local American football team

At Maidstone Pumas AFC, we’re all about having fun and embracing challenge. The Pumas are a team run by players for players. Our experienced coaches train our players to reach their highest potential and push personal development, whether it’s at training or during competition. We’ve been around since 2000 and took a small break from league action in 2014. The Pumas rebuilt in 2015 and came back into the league in 2016 with sights on developing the club.The Pumas 2016 season was a tough lesson for a young Pumas outfit losing all game ending with a record of 0-10. After the season the Puma coaching staff left and the Pumas made changes again.
2017 saw a new start for the Pumas with a new Chairman and committee and a new coaching staff introduced.The Pumas went into the season against some tough competition. And finished the season with a 2-8 record breaking a losing streak that had lasted for nearly 6 years.2018 the Pumas hit the field excited and with a new lease of life. The Pumas where moved into a different conference in division 2 and played against against some tough competition. With possibly the smallest squad in the conference the Pumas finished the season 1-7 winning the last game of the season.

PETER LAWRENCE

Quarterback

Peter Lawrence has been with the Pumas since they rejoined the league in 2016.Lawrence established himself as a possession receiver for the Pumas and currently holds many records for the Pumas in the receiving category.Lawrence has made the change to QB this season after the team’s senior qb retired after the 2018 season.

GEORGE STONE

Running back

Stone joined the Pumas in 2016 as the Pumas stared back in the league. Stone slotted in perfectly at runningback. Stone has played both fullback and tailback in the Puma backfield.He has shown to be a workhorse Running the ball selflessly to get the Pumas into good field position to score.We look forward to seeing George run the ball in 2019.

SCOTT BARNARD

Defensive End

Barnard is a hybrid player who features mainly at DE but can play at linebacker. He is known for his quickness and great ability to shed the block. A good tackler and solid at chasing down those in the backfield.
We look forward to seeing Barnard causing issues this year.

LEWIS JACKSON

Center/Offensive Tackle

Jackson played his rookie season last year and immediately found a home on the offensive line. Jackson has found himself to be a solid linemen with great first drive and quick hands. We are excited to see him in 2019 with a year under his belt.

SIMON MACKERILL

Head Coach

Mackerill has been with the Pumas for sometime and has played domsestic football since 1996.As a player Mackerill played as a QB and FS in his primary roles. However he has played all over the field.Mackerill became HC in 2017 when the previous coaching staff left the club. Mackerill established a new coaching staff in 2017 and put in place a new training program and offence style at the club.The offence Started putting points on the board and the Pumas broke a losing streak.Mackerill returned in 2018 as HC while playing some QB.Mackerill played his last game at QB at the end of the 2018 season getting the Pumas a win against the Sabres.Mackerill returns this year at HC.

Kent Exiles, Farnham Knights, London Olympians, East Kent Mavericks.

BENJI DUNMORE

Defensive backs coach

Coach Benji has been with the Pumas the last few years as DC. This year he is focusing on more player development developing a young defensive secondary.
Coach Benji bring LOS of experience from his days at Solent with the Thrashers.

SCOTT BARNARD

Linebackers Coach

Coach Barnard begins his coaching career with the Pumas. Scott has been with the Pumas as a player since 2016 and has since qualified as a coach.
He is a respected member of the Puma defence and we look forward to seeing him develop as a coach. He has a very exciting LB group this year and we look forward to seeing how they work.

GEORGE STONE

Running backs coach

Maidstone Pumas AFC wouldn’t be where it is today if it weren’t for Coach Stone, who helps oversee the club. He has been with the Pumas since 2016 and has since qualified as a coach. We are excited to see Stone bring his work horse ethic to the Pumas running backs

PETER LAWRENCE

Receivers Coach

Coach Lawrence has been with the Pumas as a player since 2016 an has recently qualified as a coach. He is currently making the move from wr to qb and in that time has taken the role of coaching the receivers.
We look forward to seeing if any of coach Lawerence’s hand skills can be transferred to his young receiving group.

PUMAS SEASON SCHEDUAL ANNOUNCED .

The Maidstone Pumas have their opponents for the 2019 season.
This year they will be playing Norwich Devils, Ipswich Cardinals, East Essex Sabres, Essex Spartans, East Kent Mavericks.
The Pumas will face the same opponent as 2018 except the Mavericks who have come back to the second division. The Kent derby will be an exciting matchup as the Pumas and Mavericks always give an entertaining game for the local Kent residents.
